What is SDP (Session Description Protocol)?

SDP is a format that is used for describing the streaming media initialization parameters. It is published in the RFC 4566 standard by the IETF. For the streaming media it is enough if it is seen or heard during transmission. SDP does not transmit the media itself, but negotiate the endpoints of media formats, their types and all referring properties. SDP is designed to be expandable in order to be able to support the new media types and formats. SDP is used in connection with RTP and SIP, despite of the fact, that it is a component of the SAP (Session Announcement Protocol) at the initials.
