The IP or VoIP phones are specific types of telephones that provides the placing
and transmission of phone calls with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). This
technology uses the Internet instead of the traditional public switched telephone
network (PSTN). So if you want to use an IP telephone system in your office,
you will need IP telephone devices.

The definition of IP phone includes the desktop VoIP Phones, softphones and SIP
phones. These devices/software has just different names, but the technology is
the same: IP Phones with VoIP.
