Due to the fact that SIP telephony is inevitably spreading, there is a huge demand for connecting old PSTN devices to the VoIP network. Ozeki Phone System XE VoIP PBX allows to connect analog phone lines and PSTN devices effectively. Follow this article for step-by-step configuration guides.
You can easily connect analog phone lines and PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) devices to Ozeki Phone System XE. For this purpose you will only need an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) device. The PBX will handle these lines and devices with the help of the connected ATA. This way, PSTN-to-VoIP and VoIP-to-PSTN calls can be made easily (Figure 1).

Regarding PSTN-to-VoIP communication, address translation is the
key factor. In a VoIP network, the connected computers and VoIP devices are
differentiated by IP addresses. It means that an IP address is assigned to each
When you would like to call a PSTN phone number from a VoIP network, then the assigned IP address of the phone needs to be translated to a phone number. This phone number then can be easily recognized in the PSTN network.
The PSTN connection can be created in the PBX as an extension. It means that this connection will seem to be a SIP extension from the VoIP side, while the VoIP network will seem to be a traditional phone line from the PSTN line.
